Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh
Friday 10 – Sunday 12 June 2016
Every year the beautiful Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh opens its doors to hold a weekend retail design fair called DesignMarket. In cahoots with Creative Edinburgh and Process Studios, both floors are filled with all kinds of printmaking, jewellery, fashion, homeware and ceramics.
As part of the weekend, Creative Edinburgh programme “Tales of the Trade” talks. This year guest speakers included Sarah Henderson from Squid Ink Co. looking at e-commerce and tips for better online selling and Kristi Vana from the Dovecot Shop offering advice on approaching retailers.
As if this wasn't enough, Process Studios were also running drop-in workshops making Dysperse and Ceramic Buttons. Phew!
This was my second year selling at this amazing event. To say it’s a highlight of my selling year is an understatement. It is curated so beautifully with so many amazing makers who not only produce some exquisite works, but also help to keep spirits high throughout the long hours and hordes of customers!
Some of my personal favourites include:
A Pair of Blue Eyes and her 50s inspired printmaking homewares and artwork. Check out all that colour!
Natalie J Wood Designs with her Detsu ceramics (and yeah, I may have bought myself a set of mugs and a pitcher / jug).
I’ve had a bit of a thing with Fiona Luing Jewellery ever since I discovered it at the DesignMarket back in 2013 – check her “tiny ring lady gang” here – too cute!
The aforementioned Squid Ink Co also had a stand with her weaving kits and concrete jewellery. Yum! You can also book her to deliver weaving courses.
I mean, really I could give everyone a wee shout-out, because they are all really amazing. Instead, check out this photo album on the Fruitmarket Gallery Facebook Page for more examples or see the full list (and links) to each maker below.
