Ingredient Highlight - Avena Sativa [oats]
OATS – AVENA SATIVA
The humble oat has been used for hundreds of years to help dry, itchy and inflamed skin.
Providing excellent softening, soothing and hydrating properties, oat milk softens and oat oil penetrates the epidermis providing deep moisturisation. Damaged skin will benefit from its nourishing essential fatty acids (omegas), which help to lock in moisture. Throughout history oats have been used to treat skin conditions including eczema, burns and inflammation. Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used oat milk baths to beautify and heal their skin and these uses continue today.
Key benefits include:
- Targeting dryness
- Moisturising skin
- Reducing itchiness
- Calming inflammation
- Create an oatmeal bath by adding some oats to your next bath to create a milky soothing soak. To keep things neat, use a square of muslin or cheesecloth or even the foot of a stocking to create a small bag of oats and place directly into bath water. Don’t forget to secure the opening well!
- Alternatively use in the shower and dab your bag of oats over damp skin before rinsing off.
- For severely itchy skin, make a paste of ground oatmeal with warm water and apply directly to skin to gain immediate relief. Rinse off with warm (not hot) water.
Oat oil used by Lucky Cloud Skincare is extracted from the whole kernel by a gentle process which retains the important active components.
