Buttery Goodness!

Buttery goodness

Rich in essential fatty acids – which are needed to retain skin moisture and elasticity, we’re having a look at four  amazing butters Cocoa + Black Cocoa  + Shea + Coconut

So fantastic for your skin, especially if it’s dry, they’re all beneficial for people who suffer from flaky, eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis prone skin conditions. They help to moisturise as well as delivering a protective barrier which retains moisture and helps prevent dirt and grime getting in.

Cocoa Butter
Theobroma Cacao

A pale yellow and firm consistency, cocoa butter is produced by roasting cocoa beans, then mechanically pressing them to yield an oil , (what’s left over is the cocoa powder). Filtering this oil through a muslin cloth it’s then left to solidify. It has a melting point of about 35deg C, slightly lower than our resting body temperature.

Rich in natural fats and antioxidants, cocoa butter is superb for moisturising the skin and rich in Vitamin E and K. It gives softness, nourishment and protection to your skin and gives a lovely rich consistency to body balms, butters, creams, ointments and lip balms.

Due to its slightly waxy texture it creates a barrier on your skin, which is recommended to help treat eczema and dermatitis. Protecting sensitive skin, it helps prevent moisture loss.

You can find Cocoa Butter in our Body Butters + Body Balms + Lip Butter products.

Black Cocoa Butter
Theobroma Cacao Seed Powder + Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter

This lovely chocolatey style butter is derived in a very similar way to the standard Cocoa Butter (above). However, instead of only using the oil that is derived from the pressing of the cocoa beans, the left over power (seed powder) is also incorporated as opposed to being removed.

This addition of the seed powder creates a butter that’s not as “fatty” as normal Cocoa Butter, but still wonderful for its skin conditioning and protection, with all the benefits of that Cocoa Butter provides.

Oh, and it smells so heavenly! You’ll get your decadent chocolate fix just by sniffing this beautiful dark brown, solid butter.

You’ll find this beautiful raw ingredient in our Cocoa Lip Butters.

Shea Butter, organic
Butyrospermum parkii

Made from the stones of the organic fruit from the Shea Tree (Vitellaria), which aren’t cultivated, rather they grow wild.

The high fatty acid content of shea butter makes it an excellent addition to anti-aging creams, cosmetics, lotions and massage oils. Because it’s such a soft, buttery texture, it easily melts into the skin

Vitamin Rich

Shea Butter contains so many fantastic vitamins that your dry skin will LOVE. Vitamins E,D and A – this combination of nutrients is meant to stimulate skin cell repair to aid the following:

  • Deeply moisturising – great for mature skin

  • Anti-Oxidant – it helps to protect the skin against free radicals

  • Anti-inflammatory – great to treat eczema and psoriasis

  • Gentle – so it’s great for sensitive skin (even for babies!) Although, please always to a patch test first to make sure

Shea Butter is used in all our Body Balm products

Coconut Butter
Cocos Nucifera

We all know a bit more about coconut butter these days. It’s certainly become the go to oil for cooking, health and skincare.

Solid at room temperature, coconut butter (which is really an oil) melts on contact with your skin and is ideal for all skin types, but especially beneficial for those with dry, itchy, flaky and sensitive skin especially people who suffer from eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis.. Oh and it smells absolutely Ah-Mazing.

The oil is extracted from the kernel of coconuts giving a rich, luxurious product which just glides over skin like silk. It’s rich in essential proteins that help promote healthy hair and scalp. It nourishes and repairs dull and damaged hair and can even help dandruff if massaged into the scalp. Be warned, it will take a bit of effort to wash it out afterwards…

The uses for this wonder butter are almost limitless…

  • Make-up remover

  • Lip Butter

  • Hair masque

  • Massage oil

Yum, Coconut Butter is used in all our Lip Butters to give that silky soft consistency that just glides onto your lips.
