Strawberries - Why They'll Give You Glowing Skin

EAT YOUR WAY TO HEALTHY GLOWING SKIN!

While we obviously love skincare round here, we’re believers in taking care of ourselves holistically.

good nutrition is a fundamental building block of healthy skin

Using skincare topically can offer your skin some incredible benefits (not only to your actual skin, but your mind and well-being too), however it’s important to remember that our skin is a reflection of our diet and lifestyle as too.

We all need a well-rounded diet of healthy fats, protein, fresh fruits and vegetables

So, we’re going to start a new series of blogs on “eating your way to healthy skin”, “busting skincare myths” and some of the most common enemies to your skin.

STRAWBERRIES ARE IN SEASON RIGHT NOW

and are a fantastic source of nutrients, so grab a punnet and get munchin’
Nutritionally speaking, they are rich in:
Vitamin C
Vitamin K
Folate
Potassium
Manganese
Magnesium
Fibre
Anti-inflammatory
Antioxidant

Why your skin will love strawberries

One cup has up to 130% of the daily value of vitamin C, an amazing antioxidant that boosts production of collagen fibres (which helps keep skin smooth and firm).

More C may mean fewer fine lines too: Those with lower intakes of strawberries were likelier to have dry, wrinkled skin. Early research also shows that Ellagic Acid, an antioxidant abundant in strawberries, protects the elastic fibres that keep skin from sagging. Sweet!

DIY strawberry mask

  • Mash 4-5 strawberries and mix with a tablespoon of honey

  • Apply to face, let sit for 10 minutes and wash off

NOT VEGAN:
Obviously this isn’t a vegan face mask – but the honey will help keep the mask on your skin and acts as a humectant (draws moisture to the skin)

If you’re a steadfast vegan, why not just try using the mashed strawberries as a fresh face wash (you’ll get the added exfoliating benefits of the strawberry seeds – just don’t scrub too hard)

Key skin loving components:

Salicylic Acid
Helps to breakdown the top level cells on your skin, revealing soft, smooth, fresh skin

Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA)
Stimulates cell renewal, mild peeling effect, stimulates collagen and brightens the skin

Ellagic Acid
A super antioxidant, protects your skins elasticity
